Press Releases

Post press releases on your web site on your media kit page. A media kit basically contains a list of your press releases (link off to one press release per page), background and information about your business, and full contact information.

Send a copy of a press release with a letter letting customers and prospects know what is going on in your company.

Include a press release as part of a sales kit/presentation folder, especially for prospective clients you approach offline.

Include a link to a press release published online in any email correspondence.

Include the press release in any sales correspondence with prospects and customers.

Where to submit your press release and gather information:

Other Ideas:

1. Start small. Think locally. Your best bet for getting media
is right in your own home town. Editors and news directors love to do stories on businesses and individuals they can phone without placing a long distance call. Find the contact information for your local media in the Yellow Pages. Call the front desk and ask who handles stories like yours. You might even try pitching your story over the phone before you send your release.

2. Send your release to a trade publication that covers your
industry. Be sure to send them a photo, with YOU in the picture.

3. Look for neighborhood or alternative newspapers that cover
stories like yours.

4. Send out a release at least four to six times per year (repetition will bring your web site exposure and new traffic), and for any of these occasions:

- new website or service
- community participation: charity auctions, sponsorships
- changes or additions to your service/product or structure
- awards you've won
- business anniversary
- employee retires after 50 years
- ownership change
- new staff
- expansion or merger
- repositioning your business
- opening a new location
- announce results of product research
