MIME Types
Mime types is a tool that allows you to set how browsers interpret documents on your website. This is different than Apache handlers, where you can set how the server interprets your data. Audio, image, text, video, and application data all rely on mime types in order to function.
Mime types are typically assigned when a new technology is developed and released on the internet. Instead of waiting for the server to patch and update the MIME type, you can set up new MIME types to handle the updates.
Do not attempt to change current MIME types, and if you add one, please contact HostingCT before making any changes that could compromise your website.
To add a new MIME Type…
1. Enter the MIME Type you want in the MIME Type field and be sure to look at pre-existing MIME types to ensure that there is no overlap.
2. Enter the extension of the new program in the extensions field. Click add.
3. To remove the newly added MIME Type, fill in the information found in the MIME type list. You need to make sure the spacing is accurate so that it deletes the correct MIME Type.
